Highway 60 and Sparrow Road in Vici was the scene of a two vehicle collision shortly before 8:00 pm on Monday, September 25th where a 2009 Kia Sorento driven by 42 year old Kimberly Devon of Vici was struck by a 2003 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by 40 year old Troy Hedges of Mutual.
According the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the SUV was southbound on Sparrow Road, failed to yield at a stop sign, and was struck by the semi-truck that was eastbound on Highway 60.
The OHP reports Devon and three passengers in the SUV were transported to Woodward Hospital. Devon and 22 year old Abiguel Martinez of Vici were treated and released. An 11 year old male passenger was transported from Woodward Hospital to OU Medical Center by medivac. He was listed in critical condition on Tuesday morning. A 12 year old male passenger did not survive injuries sustained in the accident.
The truck driver was not injured.
Highway 60 was closed for a short period of time after the wreck. Our prayers continue for all involved in this accident.
Softball Regionals will begin Thursday at Vici for the Lady Indians. Vici vs Granite will begin at 12:00 pm. Duke vs Leedey will begin at 2:00 pm.
The Vici Indians will travel to Drummond for Regionals with their first game Thursday at 4:00 pm vs Asher. Other teams include Moss and Drummond. (Bracket was revised, moving games to Thursday/Friday instead of Friday/Saturday).
The end of the baseball and softball season is in sight. The week before post-season play begins the Indians and Lady Indians, both ranked #4, retained valuable ranking position. District playoffs for both teams will be held in Vici. The Lady Indians will host Buffalo next Tuesday, September 19th (livestream at vicivisiontv2.com). The Indians will host Calumet and Dover beginning next Thursday, September 21st (livestream at vicivisiontv.com).
A 4.8 million dollar Vici School building bond will be voted on next Tuesday, September 12th. The duration, 12 years. The tax increase, 15.92%. The project will provide 6 classrooms and a FEMA rated tornado shelter. Questions and concerns will be heard tonight at the Jerald Shaw Auditorium at Vici Public School beginning at 7:00 pm. A fire ignited along Highway 60 just west of Vici due to a flat tire. The smoke is clearing as the fire is extinguished. The humidity level is lower and fire danger is higher with today’s elevated temperatures and south breeze.
