Red Flag Warning and Fire Weather Watch issued for this afternoon.

Red Flag Fire Warning

Oklahoma Forestry Services is alerting the public to the potential for extreme fire weather in the western one-third of Oklahoma on Wednesday afternoon.

A red flag warning and fire weather watch have been issued for Wednesday afternoon in advance of a dry line that will move across the state, bringing higher temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds. Areas of greatest concern are counties in the Panhandle and western Oklahoma west of a line from Alfalfa County in the north to Tillman County in the south.

“The conditions predicted for Wednesday have the potential for extreme wildfire behavior,” said George Geissler, Oklahoma State Forester. “We are urging people not to do any burning on Wednesday. We also ask that you report any fire or smoke you see to your nearest fire department. Time is of the essence under these types of conditions as any new fire will spread rapidly. ”
